OET (OET-LV) not you_will_turn_aside the_justice_of a_sojourner a_fatherless_one and_not you_will_take_as_pledge the_garment_of a_widow.
OET (OET-RV) Don’t pervert justice if it involves foreigners or orphans, and don’t take a widow’s cloak as security for a loan.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
לֹ֣א תַטֶּ֔ה מִשְׁפַּ֖ט
not (Some words not found in UHB: not deprive justice_of alien orphan and=not take_~_in_pledge garment_of widow's )
Here Moses is speaking of judgment as if it were a straight object that could be physically twisted or bent. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [You shall not deny justice to] or [You shall not treat unfairly in court]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / genericnoun
גֵּ֣ר יָת֑וֹם & אַלְמָנָֽה
(Some words not found in UHB: not deprive justice_of alien orphan and=not take_~_in_pledge garment_of widow's )
Here, the foreigner, the fatherless, and a widow represent these types of people in general, not specific individuals. This pattern continues throughout the chapter. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use expressions that would be more natural in your language. Alternate translation: [any foreigner or orphan … any widow]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
