OET (OET-RV) Then the king begged the prophet, “Please, pray to your god Yahweh for me, so my hand will return to normal.”
¶ So the man of God interceded with Yahweh, and the king was able to use his hand again.
Note 1 topic: writing-quotations
וַיַּ֨עַן הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ אֶל־אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים
(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_answered the=king and=he/it_said to/towards (a)_man the=ʼElohīm entreat now DOM face/surface_of YHWH God_of,your and,pray for,me so,that_it_may_come_back hand_of,my to,me and,he_entreated (a)_man the=ʼElohīm DOM face/surface_of YHWH and,it_came_back hand_of the=king to=him/it and=it_became as,at,[time] )
The king was not answering something that the man of God had said to him. He was responding to the situation. It may be helpful to clarify that for your readers. If you have already translated the book of 1 Samuel, see how you translated the similar expression in [1 Samuel 14:28](../1sa/14/28.md). Alternate translation: [And the king responded to the man of God]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche
חַל־נָ֞א אֶת־פְּנֵ֨י יְהוָ֤ה & אֶת־פְּנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה
entreat now DOM (Some words not found in UHB: and,he_answered the=king and=he/it_said to/towards (a)_man the=ʼElohīm entreat now DOM face/surface_of YHWH God_of,your and,pray for,me so,that_it_may_come_back hand_of,my to,me and,he_entreated (a)_man the=ʼElohīm DOM face/surface_of YHWH and,it_came_back hand_of the=king to=him/it and=it_became as,at,[time] )
Jeroboam is using one part of Yahweh, his face, to represent all of him in the act of being entreated. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. If you have already translated the book of 1 Samuel, see how you translated the similar expression in [1 Samuel 13:12](../1sa/13/12.md). Alternate translation: [Please entreat Yahweh … Yahweh]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / personification
וְתָשֹׁ֥ב יָדִ֖י אֵלָ֑י & וַתָּ֤שָׁב יַד־הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֵלָ֔יו
(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_answered the=king and=he/it_said to/towards (a)_man the=ʼElohīm entreat now DOM face/surface_of YHWH God_of,your and,pray for,me so,that_it_may_come_back hand_of,my to,me and,he_entreated (a)_man the=ʼElohīm DOM face/surface_of YHWH and,it_came_back hand_of the=king to=him/it and=it_became as,at,[time] )
Jeroboam and the author are speaking of his hand as if it were a living thing that could return to him. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [that I may be able to pull my hand back … and the king was able to pull his hand back] or [that I may be able to lower my arm … and the king was able to lower his arm]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / events
וַתָּ֤שָׁב יַד־הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֵלָ֔יו וַתְּהִ֖י כְּבָרִֽאשֹׁנָֽה
(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_answered the=king and=he/it_said to/towards (a)_man the=ʼElohīm entreat now DOM face/surface_of YHWH God_of,your and,pray for,me so,that_it_may_come_back hand_of,my to,me and,he_entreated (a)_man the=ʼElohīm DOM face/surface_of YHWH and,it_came_back hand_of the=king to=him/it and=it_became as,at,[time] )
The author is describing one event, the king’s hand being restored, before describing another event that preceded it, the king pulling his hand back. If it would be helpful in your language, you may wish to relate these events in the order in which they happened. Alternate translation: [and the hand of the king became like at the first, and he was able to pull it back]
OET (OET-LV) And_he_answered the_king and_he/it_said to the_man_of the_ʼElohīm entreat please DOM the_face_of YHWH god_of_your and_pray for_me so_that_it_may_come_back hand_of_my to_me and_ the_man_of _he_entreated the_ʼElohīm DOM the_face_of YHWH and_ the_hand_of _it_came_back the_king to_him/it and_it_became as_at_time.

¶ So the man of God interceded with Yahweh, and the king was able to use his hand again.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
