The author is using stretched out his hand as a common expression of the culture to mean “pointed at him.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [that Jeroboam pointed at him, using his hand that had been over the altar … the hand that he had used to point at him]

The implied “you” in the imperative Seize is plural here because Jeroboam is giving a command to several of his officials or soldiers who are present. So use the plural form in your translation if your language marks that distinction.

The author is speaking of the king’s arm as if it were actually a plant that had lost its moisture and become stiff. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [And his hand that he had stretched out against him became stiff] or [And the hand with which he was pointing suddenly became immobilized]

As the context indicates, the author is using Jeroboam’s hand to represent his entire arm. Alternate translation: [And his arm]
