OET (OET-LV) And from the time now the son of_ the _man will_be sitting on the_right of_the power of_ the _god.
OET (OET-RV) But from now on, humanity’s child will be sitting in the seat of power at God’s right hand.”
Luke indicates that Jesus had several trials. These trials can also be considered to be several parts of the same trial. Luke recorded the details of four of these trials. The chart here lists them according to who was leading at each trial:
22:66–71 | the Jewish council |
23:1–5 | Pilate |
23:6–12 | Herod |
23:13–25 | Pilate again |
In all of Jesus’ trials, there was no one who could prove that Jesus had broken any law of God or man. However, even though he had not done anything wrong, the Roman governor Pilate sentenced him to die on a cross.
The Notes suggest a section heading for each of the trials in the chart. However, you may decide to have one heading for Section Group 22:66–23:25 like the one suggested in the Section Group box above. Another example of a heading for this section group is:
The leaders tried and condemned Jesus
But from now on the Son of Man
But very soon the Son of Man
But in the immediate future I, the Son of Man,
will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”
will be sitting at the right side of God, the Owner of All Power!”
will be with/beside God, the All-Powerful One, on his right sharing his authority.”
from now on: The phrase from now on can refer to that particular moment or to the time period that would begin very soon. Other ways to translate this phrase are:
the day will come soon whenWestern Bukidnon Manobo back translation on TW.
very soon now
in the immediate future
the Son of Man: Here Jesus used the title the Son of Man to refer to himself, as he often did. The Jewish leaders knew that the Son of Man was another term for the Messiah. In many languages it will be necessary to make explicit that Jesus referred to himself. For example:
I, the Son of MankindYakan back translation on TW.
I, the prophesied older sibling of mankindWestern Bukidnon Manobo back translation on TW.
The phrase Son of Man also occurred in 17:22. You should translate the term in the same way here. For translation suggestions, see the note on 17:22a–b.
will be seated at the right hand of the power of God: The right hand of God refers to the place of special honor and authority next to God. In the culture of that time, the seat at the right of the king was the place of highest honor next to him. That person shared the authority and honor of the king.
If the right hand of God does not symbolize honor and authority in your culture, you may need to make this explicit. For example:
will be sitting in the place of honor and authority at the right side of God, the All-Powerful
of the power of God: The Greek phrase that the BSB literally translates as of the power of God indicates that God has all power. It can be translated as a title or as a description. For example:
of Almighty God (GNT)
of God All-Powerful (CEV)
of the powerful God (NCV)
of God, who has all power
This phrase does not imply that there are other gods who are not powerful. Try to translate in a way that does not imply that.
ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν
(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἀπό τοῦ νῦν Δέ ἔσται ὁ Υἱός τοῦ Ἀνθρώπου Καθήμενος ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Θεοῦ)
Alternate translation: [after this]
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person
ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ Ἀνθρώπου
the (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἀπό τοῦ νῦν Δέ ἔσται ὁ Υἱός τοῦ Ἀνθρώπου Καθήμενος ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Θεοῦ)
Here Jesus is referring to himself in the third person. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate this in the first person. Alternate translation: [I, the Son of Man]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ Ἀνθρώπου
the (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἀπό τοῦ νῦν Δέ ἔσται ὁ Υἱός τοῦ Ἀνθρώπου Καθήμενος ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Θεοῦ)
See how you translated the title Son of Man in [5:24](../05/24.md). Alternate translation: [I, the Messiah]
Note 3 topic: translate-symaction
ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Θεοῦ
on ˓the˒_right ˱of˲_the power ¬the ˱of˲_God
To sit at the right hand … of God means to receive great honor and authority from God. Alternate translation: [in a place of honor next to the all-powerful God]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys
τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Θεοῦ
˱of˲_the power ¬the ˱of˲_God
This expression is like a hendiadys, in which two nouns are used together and one of them describes the other. Alternate translation: [the powerful God] or [the all-powerful God]
OET (OET-LV) And from the time now the son of_ the _man will_be sitting on the_right of_the power of_ the _god.
OET (OET-RV) But from now on, humanity’s child will be sitting in the seat of power at God’s right hand.”
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
