OET (OET-LV)This one having_approached to_ the _Pilatos, requested the body of_ the _Yaʸsous.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ

requested (Some words not found in SR-GNT: Οὗτος προσελθών τῷ Πιλάτῳ ᾐτήσατο τό σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ Τότε ὁ Πιλᾶτος ἐκέλευσεν ἀποδοθῆναι)

The reason that Joseph asked Pilate for the body of Jesus was so that he could bury it. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [asked for the body of Jesus so that he could bury it]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

ἀποδοθῆναι

˓to_be˒_given_back

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who would do the action, it is clear from the context that it would be Pilate’s soldiers. Alternate translation: [the soldiers to give it to him]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

27:58 In Roman crucifixion, the bodies of criminals were often left to rot. Deut 21:22-23 prohibits a body from remaining on a cross or a gallows overnight. Joseph’s action was in accordance with Jewish law, while his motivation was probably his loyalty to Jesus.
• Pilate issued an order: Pilate was accommodating, probably because he did not believe Jesus was guilty of insurrection (see Matt 27:24-26).
