OET (OET-LV) And_now send quickly and_tell to_Dāvid to_say do_not pass_the_night the_night at_the_wilderness_plains_of the_wilderness and_also definitely_(pass_over) you_will_pass_over lest it_should_be_swallowed_up to/for_the_king and_to/for_all the_people which with_him/it.
OET (OET-RV) Then he told them, “Get that message to David quickly. Tell him not to overnight at the fords in the wilderness, but to cross over otherwise he’ll be killed along with everyone else with him.”

(Some words not found in UHB: and=now send quickly and,tell to,David to=say not lodge the=night at,the_desert_plains_of of,the_wilderness and=also to_cross_over cross_over lest swallowed_up to/for=the_king and=to/for=all the,people which/who with=him/it )
See how you translated the similar expression in [2:6](../02/06.md).

לֵאמֹ֗ר אַל־תָּ֤לֶן הַלַּ֨יְלָה֙ בְּעַֽרְב֣וֹת הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר וְגַ֖ם עָב֣וֹר תַּעֲב֑וֹר פֶּ֚ן יְבֻלַּ֣ע לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וּלְכָל־הָעָ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּֽוֹ
to=say not (Some words not found in UHB: and=now send quickly and,tell to,David to=say not lodge the=night at,the_desert_plains_of of,the_wilderness and=also to_cross_over cross_over lest swallowed_up to/for=the_king and=to/for=all the,people which/who with=him/it )
If it would be clearer in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: [and tell him not to lodge tonight at the fords of the wilderness but instead, crossing over, to cross over, lest the king be swallowed and all of the people who are with him]

בְּעַֽרְב֣וֹת הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר
(Some words not found in UHB: and=now send quickly and,tell to,David to=say not lodge the=night at,the_desert_plains_of of,the_wilderness and=also to_cross_over cross_over lest swallowed_up to/for=the_king and=to/for=all the,people which/who with=him/it )
See how you translated the similar expression in [15:28](../15/28.md). Alternate translation: [at the fords of the Jordan River]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / reduplication
וְגַ֖ם עָב֣וֹר תַּעֲב֑וֹר
and=also to_cross_over (Some words not found in UHB: and=now send quickly and,tell to,David to=say not lodge the=night at,the_desert_plains_of of,the_wilderness and=also to_cross_over cross_over lest swallowed_up to/for=the_king and=to/for=all the,people which/who with=him/it )
Hushai is repeating forms of the verb cross over in order to intensify his expression of the idea that it conveys. If your language can repeat words for intensification, it would be appropriate to do that here in your translation. If not, your language may have another way of expressing the intensification. Alternate translation: [but instead certainly cross over]

פֶּ֚ן יְבֻלַּ֣ע לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ
(Some words not found in UHB: and=now send quickly and,tell to,David to=say not lodge the=night at,the_desert_plains_of of,the_wilderness and=also to_cross_over cross_over lest swallowed_up to/for=the_king and=to/for=all the,people which/who with=him/it )
Hushai is using the word translated as lest to introduce an outcome that he does not want to happen. Because of this, he first gives David an instruction for him and his men to follow so that this will not happen. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that avoiding this outcome is the purpose of the instruction. Alternate translation: [Otherwise, the king will be swallowed]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
פֶּ֚ן יְבֻלַּ֣ע לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ
(Some words not found in UHB: and=now send quickly and,tell to,David to=say not lodge the=night at,the_desert_plains_of of,the_wilderness and=also to_cross_over cross_over lest swallowed_up to/for=the_king and=to/for=all the,people which/who with=him/it )
Here, Hushai is speaking as if King David would actually be swallowed. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [lest the king be destroyed]
Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
פֶּ֚ן יְבֻלַּ֣ע לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ
(Some words not found in UHB: and=now send quickly and,tell to,David to=say not lodge the=night at,the_desert_plains_of of,the_wilderness and=also to_cross_over cross_over lest swallowed_up to/for=the_king and=to/for=all the,people which/who with=him/it )
The expression be swallowed is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [lest Absalom and his army swallow up the king] or [lest Absalom and his army destroy the king]

Even though the priests’ messengers would be addressing David directly, Hushai tells them to speak of him in the third person as the king to show respect. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate this in a respectful form in the second person. Alternate translation: [you, the king]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
