The account of Amasa’s lineage in [1 Chronicles 2:17](../../1ch/02/17.md) identifies his father as “Jether the Ishmaelite.” The name Jether is simply a variant of the name Ithra, but “Ishmaelite” may have been the original reading here, since identifying Ithra as an Israelite would not provide information that would help readers distinguish him from other men by the same name. If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT.

Abigail was the sister of Zeruiah. Zeruiah was the mother of Joab. Be sure that these relationships are clear in your translation.

The author is referring to sexual relations in a polite way by using the phrase had gone in to. The implication, which the author is politely not stating directly, is that Ithra had not necessarily been married to Abigail. Depending on what is helpful in your language, you could use a polite way of referring to this in your language, or you could state this plainly. Alternate translation: [who had slept with Abigail, the daughter of Nahash]
