OET (OET-LV) And_ Ḩūshay _he_came to ʼAⱱīshālōm and_ ʼAⱱīshālōm _he/it_said to_him/it to_say according_the_message the_this he_has_spoken ʼAḩītofel will_we_do DOM message_of_his if not you speak.
OET (OET-RV) So when Hushay arrived, Abshalom asked him, “Ahitofel has suggested so and so. Should we do what he said? If not, what would you recommend?”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / quotations
לֵאמֹ֗ר כַּדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ דִּבֶּ֣ר אֲחִיתֹ֔פֶל הֲנַעֲשֶׂ֖ה
to=say (Some words not found in UHB: and,he_came Ḩūshay to/towards ʼAⱱīshālōm and=he/it_said ʼAⱱīshālōm to=him/it to=say according,the_word the=this he/it_had_said ʼAḩītofel will,we_do? DOM word_of,his if not you(ms) tell )
If it would be more natural in your language, you could express the first part of this as an indirect quotation, since Absalom did not actually say According to this word. Rather, he gave Hushai a summary of what Ahithophel had said. Alternate translation: [and told him what Ahithophel had said. Then he asked, “Shall we do]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
אֶת־דְּבָר֑וֹ
DOM (Some words not found in UHB: and,he_came Ḩūshay to/towards ʼAⱱīshālōm and=he/it_said ʼAⱱīshālōm to=him/it to=say according,the_word the=this he/it_had_said ʼAḩītofel will,we_do? DOM word_of,his if not you(ms) tell )
Absalom is using the term word to represent what Ahithophel said by using words. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [what he has recommended]
Note 3 topic: writing-pronouns
אַתָּ֥ה דַבֵּֽר
(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_came Ḩūshay to/towards ʼAⱱīshālōm and=he/it_said ʼAⱱīshālōm to=him/it to=say according,the_word the=this he/it_had_said ʼAḩītofel will,we_do? DOM word_of,his if not you(ms) tell )
See how you translated the similar expression “you, you know” in [17:20](../17/20.md). Alternate translation: [tell us what you, for your part, would recommend]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
