OET (OET-LV) And_he also a_son_of strength whom his/its_heart is_like_the_heart_of (the)_lion surely_melt he_will_melt if/because all_of is_knowing Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) if/because_that is_a_warrior I_will_show_you(ms) and_the_sons strength those_who with_him/it.
OET (OET-RV) Then even your bravest warriors might lose heart, because all Yisrael knows that your father is a powerful warrior, and also that the men with him are very experienced.

בֶּן־חַ֗יִל & וּבְנֵי־חַ֖יִל
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he also/even son_of valiant which/who his/its=heart [is]_like,the_heart_of of_(the),lion to_melt lose_heart that/for/because/then/when knowing all/each/any/every Yisrael that/for/because/then/when mighty I_will_show=you(ms) and=the_sons valiant which/who with=him/it )
See how you translated the similar expression in [2:7](../02/07.md). Alternate translation: [a valiant warrior … are valiant warriors]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
אֲשֶׁ֥ר לִבּ֛וֹ כְּלֵ֥ב הָאַרְיֵ֖ה
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he also/even son_of valiant which/who his/its=heart [is]_like,the_heart_of of_(the),lion to_melt lose_heart that/for/because/then/when knowing all/each/any/every Yisrael that/for/because/then/when mighty I_will_show=you(ms) and=the_sons valiant which/who with=him/it )
Here, the heart represents a person’s courage. You may have a comparable expression in your language, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [whose courage is like the courage of a lion]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / simile
אֲשֶׁ֥ר לִבּ֛וֹ כְּלֵ֥ב הָאַרְיֵ֖ה
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he also/even son_of valiant which/who his/its=heart [is]_like,the_heart_of of_(the),lion to_melt lose_heart that/for/because/then/when knowing all/each/any/every Yisrael that/for/because/then/when mighty I_will_show=you(ms) and=the_sons valiant which/who with=him/it )
The point of this comparison is that just as a lion has great courage, so does King David. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [whose courage is great, like the courage of a lion]
Note 4 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result
הִמֵּ֣ס יִמָּ֑ס כִּֽי־יֹדֵ֤עַ כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ כִּי־גִבּ֣וֹר אָבִ֔יךָ וּבְנֵי־חַ֖יִל אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּֽוֹ
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he also/even son_of valiant which/who his/its=heart [is]_like,the_heart_of of_(the),lion to_melt lose_heart that/for/because/then/when knowing all/each/any/every Yisrael that/for/because/then/when mighty I_will_show=you(ms) and=the_sons valiant which/who with=him/it )
If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [since all of Israel knows that your father is a warrior and they who are with him are sons of valor, melting, he will melt]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / reduplication
הִמֵּ֣ס יִמָּ֑ס
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he also/even son_of valiant which/who his/its=heart [is]_like,the_heart_of of_(the),lion to_melt lose_heart that/for/because/then/when knowing all/each/any/every Yisrael that/for/because/then/when mighty I_will_show=you(ms) and=the_sons valiant which/who with=him/it )
Hushai is repeating forms of the verb melt in order to intensify his expression of the idea that it conveys. If your language can repeat words for intensification, it would be appropriate to do that here in your translation. If not, your language may have another way of expressing the intensification. Alternate translation: [he will certainly melt]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
הִמֵּ֣ס יִמָּ֑ס
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he also/even son_of valiant which/who his/its=heart [is]_like,the_heart_of of_(the),lion to_melt lose_heart that/for/because/then/when knowing all/each/any/every Yisrael that/for/because/then/when mighty I_will_show=you(ms) and=the_sons valiant which/who with=him/it )
Hushai is speaking as if even the bravest warrior in Absalom’s army would actually melt when he heard that David’s soldiers were killing the soldiers in his army. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. If you have already translated the book of Joshua, see how you translated the similar expressions in [Joshua 2:11](../../jos/02/11.md), [Joshua 5:1](../../jos/05/01.md), and [Joshua 7:5](../../jos/07/05.md). Alternate translation: [he will certainly become terrified]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
