Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed as a tool for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

10:1-42 Chapter 10 continues the series of festival sermons (see study note on 5:1–10:42). Here, the setting is Hanukkah (the Festival of Dedication), the timing of which is crucial to understanding the story (see study note on 10:22).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

οὐχ ἁρπάσει τις αὐτὰ ἐκ τῆς χειρός μου

not ˓will_be˒_snatching anyone them out_of the hand ˱of˲_me

Jesus uses the word hand to refer to his protective care and snatch to refer to removing someone from that care. If this would confuse your readers, you could express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [no one will steal any of them away from me] or [they all will remain secure forever in my care]
