ULTAnd Hilkiah, the high priest, said to Shaphan, the scribe, “I found the Scroll of the Law in the house of Yahweh.” And Hilkiah gave the scroll to Shaphan, and he read it.

USTAfter Shaphan the king’s secretary said that to Hilkiah, Hilkiah said to Shaphan, “I have found in the temple a scroll on which is written the laws that God gave to Moses!” Hilkiah gave the scroll to Shaphan, and he started to read it.

22:8-10 The scroll known as the Book of the Law might have contained all or part of Deuteronomy or even the entire Pentateuch (cp. Deut 31:26). How it had become lost or where it was found in the Temple is unknown. Shaphan reported the momentous discovery immediately and read it to the king.

Most likely these laws were written on a scroll. A scroll was a type of book made of one long, rolled-up sheet of papyrus or leather.
