BrTrAnd whenever ye shall enter into the land which the Lord your God gives you, and shall plant any fruit-tree, then shall ye purge away its uncleanness; its fruit shall be three years uncleansed to you, it shall not be eaten.

ULTAnd when you enter into the land, and you plant every tree of food, then you shall leave uncircumcised as its foreskin its fruit. Three years it shall be uncircumcised to you. It shall not be eaten.

USTWhen the people of Israel enter the land that I have promised to give to them, they should plant various kinds of trees that produce fruit. However, for three years, the people of Israel should consider the fruit of these trees to be forbidden, as if they were a person's uncircumcised foreskin. During this time, no one should eat this fruit.

BSBWhen you enter the land and plant any kind of tree for food, you shall regard the fruit as forbidden.[fn] For three years it will be forbidden to you and must not be eaten.

I Cor. 3.. GREG., lib. VIII Moral., cap. 35. Ligna pomifera, etc., usque ad in præsentis vitæ nocte gaudere.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

19:23-25 For the first three years, a newly planted fruit tree was only to be pruned and cultivated. This allowed all the strength to go back into the tree. In the fourth year, all of the fruit was considered the “first crop” and was given to God (see Exod 23:16). Only in the fifth year could the fruit be eaten.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

and,you_all_regard_forbidden uncircumcised_of,him DOM fruit_of,its three years will_belong to/for=you_all forbidden not eaten

Yahweh repeats the prohibition in order to emphasize it and to clarify that it is in force for the first three years that the tree bears fruit. Translate this to clarify the period of time the trees must be left alone. Alternate translation: [then you must consider the fruit of the trees to be unclean for the first three years and not eat any of it until after that]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

not eaten

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [You must not eat it]
