19.9 Since messueris, etc. Ut dilectionem adinvicem habeamus, as amatores and misericordes in pauperes simus, præsenti capitulo præcipitur. Debemus because egentibus dare, but_not debita violenter exigere, and reliquias bonorum of_ours concedere, imitando God datorem omnium. That's_why metentes or vindemiantes vult aliquid derelinquere pauperi and proselyto, not datori omnium videatur ingratus, who aliis divitias he_gave, alios about aliorum reliquiis vivere voluit; as so probaret dispensationem divitum, and patientiam pauperum. Pauperes because and proselytos not/no abyicit, to_whom also so victum providit. Unde subdit: I Master God vester, scilicet who divites facio, who for to_you pauper fio, who propter miseriam inopum and gemitum pauperum aliquando exsurgam. Since messueris, etc. Aperte ostendit because doctores Yudæorum totius legis interpretationem not/no capiunt, but quædam pauperi and proselyto derelinquunt, nations scilicet, to_whom it_is_said: Beati pauperes, etc. Matth. 5.. Who and proselyti are, because cognationi Abrahæ se ingerunt. That therefore it_is_said: Non occides, Non mœchaberis, metant Yudæorum doctores; which however spiritualem habent interpretationem, like emundationes, sacrificia and similia, cedant Ecclesiæ doctoribus, and which illis metentibus decidunt, id it_is which ipsi not/no intelligunt.
19:9-10 do not harvest. . . . Leave them for the poor: Israel’s covenant with God included a social structure that created a leveling effect and resisted social divisions. Families were required to provide for family members who faced difficulties. Widows and orphans (Exod 22:22), the poor, and foreigners (Lev 19:10) were considered members of Israel’s extended family. The poor were not only given special consideration in the offering system (5:7-13), but positive steps were taken to make sure they had food to eat.
