BrTrThou shalt not act unjustly in judgment: thou shalt not accept the person of the poor, nor admire the person of the mighty; with justice shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

ULTYou shall not do injustice with judgment. You shall not lift the face of an insignificant person, and you shall not honor the face of a great person. In righteousness, you shall judge your fellow citizen.

USTNo one should ever unjustly judge someone. This means that no judge should give special treatment to someone who is poor and seemingly insignificant; neither should they favor someone who is wealthy and seemingly important. Rather, judges should always execute judgment fairly and ethically for the people of Israel.

BSBYou must not pervert justice; you must not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the rich; you are to judge your neighbor fairly.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / litotes

לֹא־ תַעֲשׂ֥וּ עָ֨וֶל֙ בַּמִּשְׁפָּ֔ט

not do injustice in/on/at/with,judgment

The double negative not … injustice is used for emphasis. It can be expressed in a positive way. Alternate translation: [Always judge rightly]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / merism

לֹא־ תִשָּׂ֣א פְנֵי־ דָ֔ל וְלֹ֥א תֶהְדַּ֖ר פְּנֵ֣י גָד֑וֹל

not not you_lift face_of poor and=not you_favour face/surface_of great

The words poor and great are two extremes, which together mean “anyone.” You can translate this to clarify the terms. Alternate translation: [You must not show favoritism to anyone based on how much money they have]

בְּצֶ֖דֶק תִּשְׁפֹּ֥ט עֲמִיתֶֽךָ

in/on/at/with,justice judge neighbor_of,your

Alternate translation: [Judge everyone according to what is right]
