OET (OET-RV) Then the five men who had been here previously scouting out the land said to their group, “Do you know that there’s a house here with a gear for priests, family idols, a carved image, and a cast image? So now, consider what you should do.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys
וַֽיַּעֲנ֞וּ & וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙
and,responded & and=they_said
This phrase expresses a single idea by using two words connected with and. The word answered tells in what regard they said this. They were not answering a question but speaking in light of the situation. Alternate translation: [remarked]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
אֲחֵיהֶ֔ם
brothers,their
The author is speaking as if these fellow members of the tribe of Dan were the actual brothers of the five men. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [their kinsmen]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
הַיְדַעְתֶּ֗ם כִּ֠י יֵ֣שׁ בַּבָּתִּ֤ים הָאֵ֨לֶּה֙ אֵפ֣וֹד וּתְרָפִ֔ים וּפֶ֖סֶל וּמַסֵּכָ֑ה
the,know that/for/because/then/when there_are in/on/at/with,houses the=these ephod and,household_gods and,carved_image and,cast_metal
The men are using the question form for emphasis. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: [You should know that these houses contain an ephod and household idols and an idol and a molded image!]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
בַּבָּתִּ֤ים הָאֵ֨לֶּה֙
in/on/at/with,houses the=these
The plural term houses suggests that the phrase “the house of Micah,” which the author uses several times in this chapter and the previous one, actually refers to a compound on which there were several houses. The reference to “the house of the young man” in the next verse supports this understanding. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [in this compound] or [in this complex of houses]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys
וּפֶ֖סֶל וּמַסֵּכָ֑ה
and,carved_image and,cast_metal
See how you translated the same expression in 17:3. Alternate translation: [a cast metal idol]
18:14 sacred ephod . . . household idols . . . carved image . . . cast idol: See study notes on 8:27 and 17:5.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
