OET (OET-LV)And_they_came to brothers_their Tsārəˊāh/(Zorah) and_ʼEshəttāʼol and_they_said to/for_them brothers_their what you_all.

OET (OET-RV)Then they went back to their relatives in Tsorah and Eshtaol, who asked them, “How did it go?”

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

brothers

(Some words not found in UHB: and=they_came to/towards brothers,their Tsārəˊāh/(Zorah) and,Eshtaol and=they_said to/for=them brothers,their what you_all )

The author is speaking as if these fellow members of the tribe of Dan were actual brothers of the men who had spied on the land. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “fellow tribesmen”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

What you?

(Some words not found in UHB: and=they_came to/towards brothers,their Tsārəˊāh/(Zorah) and,Eshtaol and=they_said to/for=them brothers,their what you_all )

The men are leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: “What did you find?”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

18:1-31 The migration of the Danites (cp. Josh 19:40-48) is the story of that tribe’s failure to obey God’s covenant, and it is indicative of Israel’s decline. What began as Micah’s private heresy (Judg 17:4-5) would become the apostasy of an entire tribe (18:30-31). What began as covenant failure (1:19-36) turned into social breakdown in the days of Jephthah and Samson (chs 11–16). In the end, law and order were replaced by banditry and pillaging (18:27-28).
