The verbs struck and killed together express a single idea. The verb struck tells in what way the king of Babylon killed these men. If it would be more natural in your language, you could express this meaning in a different way. Alternate translation: [violently killed] or [executed]

It is unlikely that the king of Babylon did this personally. The author is likely using the king, who ordered this, to represent everyone who was involved, including the soldiers who carried out his order. Alternate translation: [the king of Babylon ordered his soldiers to execute them]
