OET (OET-LV)Truly I_am_saying to_you_all that he_will_be_appointing him over all the things possessing of_him.

OET (OET-RV)I can assure you all that the master will put him in charge of everything he owns.

SIL Open Translator’s Notes:

Section 12:35–48: Jesus’ servants should be watchful and faithful

In this section Jesus continued to teach his disciples. He told them to do their work faithfully and to be ready for the time he would return to earth. He used three illustrations that all emphasized how important it is to be prepared for his return. In 12:35–38 he described a man who had gone to a wedding feast. His servants needed to be ready to open the door for him at whatever time he returned. In 12:39 he described the owner of a house watching out for a thief who might come at an unexpected time. In 12:41–48, Jesus explained the difference between a faithful servant and an unfaithful servant. This encouraged his disciples to be faithful.

Some other headings for this section are:

Faithful and Unfaithful Servants (CEV)

Be Ready for the Lord’s Coming (NLT)

Watchfulness (NIV)

There is a parallel passage for 12:41–48 in Matthew 24:45–51.

12:44

Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

Truly I tell you: The expression Truly I tell you emphasizes that what Jesus was about to say would certainly happen. The same expression occurs in 12:37b.

you: The word you here is plural. Although Jesus was answering Peter’s question, what he said applied to all of his disciples.

he will put him in charge of all his possessions: The expression he will put him in charge of all his possessions means here that the master will give his faithful servant authority to manage his whole estate. Previously he had just been in charge of the other servants.

uW Translation Notes:

ἀληθῶς λέγω ὑμῖν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Ἀληθῶς λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐπί πᾶσιν τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν αὐτοῦ καταστήσει αὐτόν)

Jesus says this to emphasize what he is about to tell his disciples. Alternate translation: [I can assure you]

ἐπὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν αὐτοῦ καταστήσει αὐτόν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Ἀληθῶς λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐπί πᾶσιν τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν αὐτοῦ καταστήσει αὐτόν)

Alternate translation: [he will put him in charge of all of his property]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

12:44 in charge of all he owns: Although servants in the Roman world were slaves (the master’s property), they could rise to very high social status, owning property, managing the entire household, and acting with the master’s authority.
