OET (OET-LV)But I_will_be_showing to_you_all whom you_may_be_afraid:
be_afraid of_the one after the time to_kill_off, having authority to_throw_in him into the geenna, yes, I_am_saying to_you_all, be_fearing this one.

OET (OET-RV)But I’ll tell you who you should be afraid of: Be afraid of the one who has the authority to throw you into hell after you’re dead—yes, that’s who you should be afraid of.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

φοβήθητε τὸν & ἔχοντα ἐξουσίαν

˓be˒_afraid ˓be˒_fearing (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ὑποδείξω Δέ ὑμῖν τίνα φοβηθῆτε φοβήθητε τόν μετά τό ἀποκτεῖναι ἔχοντα ἐξουσίαν ἐμβαλεῖν εἰς τήν Γέενναν ναί λέγω ὑμῖν τοῦτον φοβήθητε)

The expression the one refers to God. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could state that explicitly. Alternate translation: [Fear God, who … has authority] or [Fear God, because he … has authority]

μετὰ τὸ ἀποκτεῖναι, ἔχοντα ἐξουσίαν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ὑποδείξω Δέ ὑμῖν τίνα φοβηθῆτε φοβήθητε τόν μετά τό ἀποκτεῖναι ἔχοντα ἐξουσίαν ἐμβαλεῖν εἰς τήν Γέενναν ναί λέγω ὑμῖν τοῦτον φοβήθητε)

Jesus is not suggesting that God actively kills each person. Alternate translation: [who, after a person dies, has authority]

Note 2 topic: translate-names

Γέενναν

Gehenna

Gehenna is the Greek name for a place, the Valley of Hinnom just outside Jerusalem.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

Γέενναν

Gehenna

Jesus uses the name of this place, where refuse was thrown and fires burned continually, to mean hell.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

12:5 hell (Greek Gehenna): The Valley of Hinnom was a ravine along the southwestern side of Jerusalem. It became a metaphor for hell because Israelites had offered their children as sacrifices there (Jer 32:35) and later used it as a place to burn garbage (Jer 19:2, 10-13). Jesus’ disciples should never be afraid of enemies who can only take away their life on earth. Instead, they should fear God, who can give eternal punishment.
