Many of Jesus’ followers expected that when they arrived in Jerusalem, Jesus would establish the kingdom of God and begin to reign as king. He told the parable in this section to help them understand that events would happen differently than they expected.
There are two main ideas that Jesus taught through this parable:
Jesus, like the important man in the parable, was going away and would not return until after God made him king. In the meantime, the Jewish people would reject Jesus and God would punish them when he returned.
While Jesus is gone, his disciples must serve him faithfully and use whatever he has given them to glorify him.

‘Master,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’
They said, ‘But Lord/King, he already has ten coins!’
But the others objected/protested, ‘Master, why do this? That servant has already gained ten times as much!’
In this verseA few Greek manuscripts omit this verse, but the UBS committee includes it with a high degree of certainty. people objected to what the king commanded in 19:24. There is a conjunction at the beginning of this verse that many English versions translate as “But.” Other versions do not translate this conjunction but indicate that the verse is an interruption by using parentheses. Express the objection in a natural way in your language.
Master: The Greek title that the BSB translates as Master is the same word that was used in 19:16 and 19:20. It is used to address the king. See the note on 19:16b for translation suggestions.
they said: The Greek phrase that the BSB translates as they said is literally “And they said to him.” The RSV and several other English versions translate it that way. In Greek it comes at the beginning of the verse. Place it where it is natural in your language.
they: The pronoun they refers to the king’s other servants, whom he had spoken to in 19:24a.This view is followed by most Bible scholars. Some scholars believe that they refers to Jesus’ audience, both here and in 19:26.
he already has ten: This is a protest. The servants politely suggested that what the king wanted to do was not fair. Some English versions, such as the BSB, indicate this by supplying a word such as already. Some ways to translate this are:
that servant has enough already (NLT96)
he has ten minas already (NASB)
But, sir, he has ten pounds (NJB)
Use a natural way in your language to imply that the servants thought that the one who had ten coins did not need more.

If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: [the attendants objected to the king that that servant already had ten minas]
