OET (OET-LV) And the eyes them were_opened_up, and they_recognized him.
And he became vanished from them.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
αὐτῶν δὲ διηνοίχθησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ
them and /were/_opened_up the eyes
Here, eyes represents understanding of what one is seeing. Alternate translation: “God enabled them to understand what they had been seeing”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
αὐτῶν δὲ διηνοίχθησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ
them and /were/_opened_up the eyes
If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this with an active form, and you could state who did the action. Alternate translation: “God enabled them to understand what they had been seeing”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
αὐτὸς ἄφαντος ἐγένετο ἀπ’ αὐτῶν
he vanished became from them
Here Luke uses an unusual expression, saying that Jesus became invisible. It does not mean that Jesus remained in the room but could not be seen. Rather, it means that he left suddenly and so the two disciples did not see him any more. Alternate translation: “suddenly they did not see him any more”
24:31 their eyes were opened: This is another example of the “divine passive” (see study note on 24:16); God opened their eyes at the breaking of the bread.
• at that moment he disappeared! In his resurrected and transformed body, Jesus had abilities not realized before the resurrection (see 24:36; 1 Cor 15:20-23, 35-57).
OET (OET-LV) And the eyes them were_opened_up, and they_recognized him.
And he became vanished from them.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
