Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

וָאֶעֱמֹ֤ד עָלָיו֙ וַאֲמֹ֣תְתֵ֔הוּ כִּ֣י יָדַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֛י לֹ֥א יִֽחְיֶ֖ה אַחֲרֵ֣י נִפְל֑וֹ

and,I_stood on/upon/above=him/it and,I,killed_him (Some words not found in UHB: and,I_stood on/upon/above=him/it and,I,killed_him that/for/because/then/when I_know that/for/because/then/when not live after he,had_fallen and,I_took the,crown which/who on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in his/its=head and,an_armlet which/who on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in arm_of,his and,I,brought_them to/towards my=master they(f) )

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [So because I knew that he would not live after his having fallen, I stood over him and killed him]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וָאֶעֱמֹ֤ד עָלָיו֙ וַאֲמֹ֣תְתֵ֔הוּ

and,I_stood on/upon/above=him/it and,I,killed_him

The young man is using a common expression of his culture, I stood over him, to mean that he attacked Saul. See how you translated the similar expression in the previous verse. Alternate translation: [So I attacked him and killed him] or [So I stabbed him with all my weight and killed him]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

לֹ֥א יִֽחְיֶ֖ה אַחֲרֵ֣י נִפְל֑וֹ

not live after he,had_fallen

The young man does not mean that Saul had actually fallen to the ground. He says in [1:6](../01/06.md) that Saul was standing up, leaning on his spear. The young man is speaking of Saul being badly defeated by the Philistines as if Saul had fallen from a height. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [the Philistines would surely kill him now that they had defeated his entire army]

Note 4 topic: translate-unknown

הַנֵּ֣זֶר ׀ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־רֹאשׁ֗וֹ וְאֶצְעָדָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־זְרֹע֔וֹ

(Some words not found in UHB: and,I_stood on/upon/above=him/it and,I,killed_him that/for/because/then/when I_know that/for/because/then/when not live after he,had_fallen and,I_took the,crown which/who on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in his/its=head and,an_armlet which/who on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in arm_of,his and,I,brought_them to/towards my=master they(f) )

A crown is a decorative headpiece that shows that a person is a king. In this context, the term describes a narrow band of gold encircling Saul’s helmet, not a large, ornamental headpiece with jewels. The band on his arm was probably a decorative item worn on the arm to show that the person was a king. If your readers would not be familiar with what these items are, in your translation you could use the name of similar things that your readers would recognize, or you could use a general expression. Alternate translation: [the royal headpiece that was on his head and the royal armband that was on his arm]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

אֶל־אֲדֹנִ֖י

to/towards my=master

Even though the young man is addressing David directly, he is speaking of him in the third person as my master to show respect. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate this in a respectful form in the second person. Alternate translation: [to you, my master]
