See the discussion in the Introduction to this chapter of how you might use punctuation or some other convention of your language to indicate the second-level, third-level, and fourth-level quotations in Yahweh’s message to Nathan in [verses 5–16](../07/05.md). That discussion also suggests that, alternatively, you could translate these verses in such a way that there are not quotations within quotations. The UST models one way to do that.

Yahweh is using the question form for emphasis, to tell David that he will not build a house for him to dwell in. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: [You shall not build for me a house for my dwelling.]

Yahweh is stating the pronoun you separately, even though the verb translated as will you build already includes this meaning. He is doing that to emphasize that David is wanting to do something that he has never asked the Israelites to do for him. If a speaker of your language would use an explicit pronoun for the same purpose, you may want to use that construction in your translation. If not, your language may have other ways of showing the meaning here. Alternate translation: [No, you shall not build a house for my dwelling]

Yahweh is speaking here as if David wants to build him a physical house as his dwelling. He is actually speaking of a temple where he would be present with his people. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [a temple where I will be present]
