TSNTyndale Study Notes:

30:6 change your heart: This work of God, initiated by his grace, would result in Israel’s regeneration and identify the nation as the Lord’s true people (see 10:16; Jer 4:4; Rom 4:1-12).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / you

General Information:

Moses speaks to the Israelites as if they were one man, so the words “you” and “your” here are singular.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) circumcise your heart

(Some words not found in UHB: and,circumcise YHWH God,your DOM heart,your and=DOM heart descendants,your so_that,love DOM YHWH God,your in=all heart,your and=on/over=all soul,your so_that your(ms)=life )

This is not a literal removal of flesh. It means God will remove their sin and enable them to love and obey him.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) with all your heart and with all your soul

(Some words not found in UHB: and,circumcise YHWH God,your DOM heart,your and=DOM heart descendants,your so_that,love DOM YHWH God,your in=all heart,your and=on/over=all soul,your so_that your(ms)=life )

Here “heart” and “soul” are metonyms for a person’s inner being. These two phrases are used together to mean “completely” or “earnestly.” See how you translated this in Deuteronomy 4:29. (See also: figs-doublet)
