TSNTyndale Study Notes:

5:23 the Father . . . sent him: In the ancient world, a person could send an authorized representative to seal a contract or make an authoritative decision. Jesus claimed to be God’s representative, so obeying Jesus is the same as obeying God, and dishonoring him is dishonoring God.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: guidelines-sonofgodprinciples

τὸν Υἱὸν & τὸν Πατέρα. ὁ μὴ τιμῶν τὸν Υἱὸν, οὐ τιμᾷ τὸν Πατέρα

the Son & the Father the_‹one› not honoring the Son not /is/_honoring the Father

Father and Son are important titles that describe the relationship between God and Jesus.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

τὸν Υἱὸν & ὁ μὴ τιμῶν τὸν Υἱὸν

the Son & the_‹one› not honoring the Son

As in the previous four verses, Jesus is referring to himself in the third person. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate this in the first person, as in the UST.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τὸν Πατέρα, τὸν πέμψαντα αὐτόν

the the Father the the Father the_‹one› /having/_sent him

Here, this phrase refers to God. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state this explicitly. Alternate translation: [God, the Father who sent him]
