Pūl

Many interpreters consider Pul to be the same king who is known elsewhere as Tiglath Pileser. See what you decided to do in the cases of the Israelite and Judean kings whom the author sometimes calls Jehoram and sometimes calls Joram. If you have decided to use the same names in your translation that the biblical author does in each place, you may wish to use the name Pul here. If you decided to use the same name consistently for a given person, you may wish to use the name Tiglath Pileser here, since that king appears later in this chapter and in chapter 16.
