OET (OET-LV)And the master said to_him:
Untie the sandal of_the feet of_you, because/for the place on which you_have_stood ground is holy.

OET (OET-RV)but Yahweh said, ‘Take off your sandals, because the ground you’re standing on is dedicated to God.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes

εἶπεν & αὐτῷ ὁ Κύριος, λῦσον τὸ ὑπόδημα τῶν ποδῶν σου, ὁ γὰρ τόπος ἐφ’ ᾧ ἕστηκας γῆ ἁγία ἐστίν

said & ˱to˲_him the Lord untie the sandal ˱of˲_the feet ˱of˲_you the for place on which ˱you˲_/have/_stood ground holy is

If the direct quotation inside a direct quotation would be confusing in your language, you could translate the second direct quotation as an indirect quotation. Alternate translation: “the Lord told Moses to untie the sandals that were on his feet, because the place on which he was standing was holy ground”

Note 2 topic: translate-symaction

λῦσον τὸ ὑπόδημα τῶν ποδῶν σου, ὁ γὰρ τόπος ἐφ’ ᾧ ἕστηκας γῆ ἁγία ἐστίν

untie the sandal ˱of˲_the feet ˱of˲_you the for place on which ˱you˲_/have/_stood ground holy is

In this culture, removing footwear was a symbolic way of acknowledging that a place was sacred. Footwear that had been worn elsewhere should not touch it. Your readers may understand the symbolic meaning of this action. If not, you could explain it in your translation. Alternate translation: “Untie your sandals and remove them to acknowledge that the place on which you are standing is holy ground”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

λῦσον τὸ ὑπόδημα τῶν ποδῶν σου

untie the sandal ˱of˲_the feet ˱of˲_you

The implication is that God wanted Moses not only to untie his sandals but also to remove them. Alternate translation: “Untie your sandals and remove them from your feet”

Note 4 topic: grammar-collectivenouns

τὸ ὑπόδημα τῶν ποδῶν σου

the sandal ˱of˲_the feet ˱of˲_you

Since this refers to both sandals, it might be more natural in your language to use the plural form of sandals. If your language uses the dual form, it would be appropriate to use that here. Alternate translation: “the sandals on your feet” or “the sandals you are wearing”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ὁ γὰρ τόπος ἐφ’ ᾧ ἕστηκας γῆ ἁγία ἐστίν

the the for place on which ˱you˲_/have/_stood ground holy is

The implication is that where God is present, the immediate area around God is considered or made holy by God. Alternate translation: “for the place on which you are standing has been made holy by my presence”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

7:1-53 Stephen responded to the accusations by testifying about his Lord (cp. Luke 21:12-17). Instead of defending himself against their prosecution, he became a witness in God’s prosecution of them, exposing their stubbornness and unfaithfulness to God. Stephen’s recital of Israel’s past reminded them of their repeated rejections of those whom God had sent.
• Stephen’s review of Israel’s history has three principal parts, dealing with the work of the patriarchs (Acts 7:2-16), the ministry of Moses (7:17-43), and the role of the Tabernacle and the Temple (7:44-50). Stephen followed up his historical survey with a clear attack on the hard-heartedness of his own people. With a prophetic challenge, he urged them to stop rebelling against the Holy Spirit and turn to God with repentance and faith.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the SR-GNT.
