OET (OET-LV) And_you_will_be groping in_noontide(s) just_as he_gropes (the)_blind_person in_darkness and_not you_will_make_successful DOM ways_of_your and_you_will_be only oppressed and_robbed all_of the_days and_there_will_not_be a_deliverer.
OET (OET-RV) Even in the middle of the day, you’ll be groping around like blind people, and your projects won’t be successful. You’ll be oppressed and robbed continually, and there’ll be no one to rescue you.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / simile
כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר יְמַשֵּׁ֤שׁ הָעִוֵּר֙ בָּאֲפֵלָ֔ה
(Some words not found in UHB: and,you_will_be grope in,noontide(s) just=as gropes (the)_blind,[person] in,darkness and=not prosper DOM ways_of,your and,you_will_be only oppressed and,robbed all/each/any/every the=days and,there_[will]_not_[be] help )
Here Moses is making a comparison. The point of this comparison is that just as the blind grope in the darkness and cannot find their way, so the people will be groping about at noon and will not be able to find their way or succeed. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [as helplessly as blind people grope in the darkness]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
אֶת־דְּרָכֶ֑יךָ
DOM (Some words not found in UHB: and,you_will_be grope in,noontide(s) just=as gropes (the)_blind,[person] in,darkness and=not prosper DOM ways_of,your and,you_will_be only oppressed and,robbed all/each/any/every the=days and,there_[will]_not_[be] help )
Here Moses is speaking of how a person lives as if that were ways or paths that the person was walking along. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [in what you do] or [in your endeavors]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְהָיִ֜יתָ אַ֣ךְ עָשׁ֧וּק וְגָז֛וּל
and,you_will_be and,you_will_be only oppressed and,robbed
The expression you shall again be oppressed and robbed uses passive verbal forms. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [And Yahweh will again allow your enemies to oppress and rob you]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
כָּל־הַיָּמִ֖ים
(Some words not found in UHB: and,you_will_be grope in,noontide(s) just=as gropes (the)_blind,[person] in,darkness and=not prosper DOM ways_of,your and,you_will_be only oppressed and,robbed all/each/any/every the=days and,there_[will]_not_[be] help )
See how you translated the expression “all of the days” in [4:40](../04/40.md). Alternate translation: [forever]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
