OET (OET-LV)And_she/it_said [the]_Fəlishəttiy upon_you Oh_Shimshōn and_awoke from_sleep_his and_he/it_said I_will_go_out as_time in/on/at/with_time and_shake_free and_he not he_knew if/because_that YHWH he_had_departed from_on_him.

OET (OET-RV)Then she said, “The Philistines are here to get you, Shimshon!” He woke up and thought to himself, “I’ll escape like all the other times and I’ll shake myself loose.” But he didn’t know that Yahweh had left him.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / events

I will go out like time upon time and I will shake myself

(Some words not found in UHB: and=she/it_said Pelishtim upon,you Shimshōn and,awoke from,sleep,his and=he/it_said go_out as,time in/on/at/with,time and,shake_~_free and=he not knowing that/for/because/then/when YHWH left from,on,him )

Samson is describing one event before describing another event that would precede it. In your translation, you may wish to relate these events in the order in which they happened. Alternate translation: “I will shake myself and go out like time upon time”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

like time upon time

(Some words not found in UHB: and=she/it_said Pelishtim upon,you Shimshōn and,awoke from,sleep,his and=he/it_said go_out as,time in/on/at/with,time and,shake_~_free and=he not knowing that/for/because/then/when YHWH left from,on,him )

Samson is using a common expression to mean that he would do what he had done previously. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “like all the other times”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

and I will shake myself

(Some words not found in UHB: and=she/it_said Pelishtim upon,you Shimshōn and,awoke from,sleep,his and=he/it_said go_out as,time in/on/at/with,time and,shake_~_free and=he not knowing that/for/because/then/when YHWH left from,on,him )

Samson seems to be saying that he will shake himself free from bonds of some kind. This suggests implicitly that Delilah or the man who shaved Samson also bound him in some way while he was still sleeping. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: “and I will shake myself free of these bonds that someone has put on me”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

Yahweh had turned from upon him

(Some words not found in UHB: and=she/it_said Pelishtim upon,you Shimshōn and,awoke from,sleep,his and=he/it_said go_out as,time in/on/at/with,time and,shake_~_free and=he not knowing that/for/because/then/when YHWH left from,on,him )

The author is speaking as if Yahweh had physically turned away from Samson. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “Yahweh was no longer giving him great strength”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

16:20 Like the remorseful but presumptuous earlier Israelites (Num 14:40-45), Samson didn’t realize that his hair was gone and that the divine presence had departed (cp. Hos 7:9).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
