uW Translation Notes:

(Occurrence 0) Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, says this to all the captives

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH armies/messengers god_of Yisrael to/from=all/each/any/every the,exile[s] which/who sent_into_exile from,Jerusalem to,Babylon )

When people wrote letters in that society, they would write their name first, then the name of the person to whom they were writing, and then the main part of the letter. Yahweh speaks of himself by name as if he were writing the letter himself.

(Occurrence 0) Yahweh of hosts … says this

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH armies/messengers god_of Yisrael to/from=all/each/any/every the,exile[s] which/who sent_into_exile from,Jerusalem to,Babylon )

Jeremiah often uses these words to introduce an important message from Yahweh. See how you translated this in [Jeremiah 6:6](../06/06.md).

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

29:1-23 Jeremiah contacted the Hebrew exiles in Babylon by letter. To reach all the scattered Israelites, his letter would be read repeatedly from settlement to settlement.
