OET (OET-LV)The Yaʸsous is_saying to_him:
So_much time I_am with you_all, and you_have_ not _known me, Filippos?
The one having_seen me, has_seen the father, how are_ you _saying:
Show the father to_us?

OET (OET-RV)I’ve been with you all for quite some time,Yeshua replied, “and yet you still don’t even know me, Philip.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / pastforfuture

λέγει

˓is˒_saying

Here John uses the present tense in past narration in order to call attention to a development in the story.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

τοσοῦτον χρόνον μεθ’ ὑμῶν εἰμι, καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωκάς με, Φίλιππε?

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: λέγει αὐτῷ Ὁ Ἰησοῦς Τοσοῦτον χρόνον μεθʼ ὑμῶν εἰμί καί οὐκ ἔγνωκας μέ Φίλιππε Ὁ ἑωρακώς ἐμέ ἑώρακεν τόν Πατέρα πῶς σύ λέγεις Δεῖξον ἡμῖν τόν Πατέρα)

Jesus is using a rhetorical question here to emphasize the truth of what he is saying. If you would not use a rhetorical question for this purpose in your language, you could translate his words as a statement or an exclamation and communicate the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: [So long a time I am with you, and you should know me, Philip!]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / you

ὑμῶν & σὺ

you_all & (Some words not found in SR-GNT: λέγει αὐτῷ Ὁ Ἰησοῦς Τοσοῦτον χρόνον μεθʼ ὑμῶν εἰμί καί οὐκ ἔγνωκας μέ Φίλιππε Ὁ ἑωρακώς ἐμέ ἑώρακεν τόν Πατέρα πῶς σύ λέγεις Δεῖξον ἡμῖν τόν Πατέρα)

The first occurrence of you in this verse is plural, but the second occurrence is singular. Your language may require you to mark these forms.

Note 4 topic: guidelines-sonofgodprinciples

τὸν Πατέρα

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: λέγει αὐτῷ Ὁ Ἰησοῦς Τοσοῦτον χρόνον μεθʼ ὑμῶν εἰμί καί οὐκ ἔγνωκας μέ Φίλιππε Ὁ ἑωρακώς ἐμέ ἑώρακεν τόν Πατέρα πῶς σύ λέγεις Δεῖξον ἡμῖν τόν Πατέρα)

Father is an important title for God.

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

πῶς σὺ λέγεις, δεῖξον ἡμῖν τὸν Πατέρα?

how (Some words not found in SR-GNT: λέγει αὐτῷ Ὁ Ἰησοῦς Τοσοῦτον χρόνον μεθʼ ὑμῶν εἰμί καί οὐκ ἔγνωκας μέ Φίλιππε Ὁ ἑωρακώς ἐμέ ἑώρακεν τόν Πατέρα πῶς σύ λέγεις Δεῖξον ἡμῖν τόν Πατέρα)

Jesus is using a rhetorical question here to emphasize what he is saying to Philip. If you would not use a rhetorical question for this purpose in your language, you could translate his words as a statement or an exclamation and communicate the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: [You really should not say, ‘Show us the Father!’]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

14:9 Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! Cp. 1:1-2. Jesus Christ is God-in-the-flesh (1:14), which explains his capacity to accomplish divine works. Jesus did not simply teach about God; in him God can be found. Jesus’ remarkable statement echoed what he had said at Hanukkah: “The Father and I are one” (10:30). This claim is at the root of the world’s opposition to Christ (5:18).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the CNTR.
