Note 1 topic: writing-newevent
וַיְהִ֗י
and=he/it_was
The author is using this phrase to introduce a new development in the story. Use a word, phrase, or other method in your language that is natural for introducing a new development.
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
מִקְצֵה֙ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת יָמִ֔ים
at,end three days
See how you translated the similar expression in 1:11. Translate this in the way your own culture reckons time. Alternate translation: “a couple of days later”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

The phrases they were near to them and they were dwelling among them mean basically the same thing. The author says the same thing twice, in slightly different ways, to emphasize that the Gibeonites lived close to the Israelites. If it would be clearer in your language, you could combine the phrases into one and show the emphasis in a way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “that they actually lived close to them!”
9:16 lived nearby! In reporting Israel’s discovery, the author repeated the word the Israelites had used to voice their suspicion of the Gibeonites (9:7).

OET (OET-RV) However, three days after making the treaty, they discovered that those people actually lived quite close to where they were.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
