uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys

וַֽיְמַהֲר֗וּ וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ בִּגְד֔וֹ

and,they_hurried (Some words not found in UHB: and,they_hurried and=they_took (a)_man garment_of,his and,they_put_[them] under,him to/towards bare_of of,the_steps and,they_gave_a_blast on,trumpet and=they_said is_king Yēhūʼ/(Jehu) )

The phrase hurried and took expresses a single idea. The word hurried tells how the other commanders took their garments. If it would be more natural in your language, you could express this meaning in a different way. Alternate translation: [And they hurriedly took, a man his garment]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וַֽיְמַהֲר֗וּ וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ בִּגְד֔וֹ

and,they_hurried (Some words not found in UHB: and,they_hurried and=they_took (a)_man garment_of,his and,they_put_[them] under,him to/towards bare_of of,the_steps and,they_gave_a_blast on,trumpet and=they_said is_king Yēhūʼ/(Jehu) )

See how you translated the similar expression in [3:23](../03/23.md). Alternate translation: [And each man hurriedly took his own garment]

Note 3 topic: translate-symaction

וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ תַחְתָּ֖יו

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_hurried and=they_took (a)_man garment_of,his and,they_put_[them] under,him to/towards bare_of of,the_steps and,they_gave_a_blast on,trumpet and=they_said is_king Yēhūʼ/(Jehu) )

Putting their garments under Jehu (that is, letting him stand on them) was a symbolic action by which the commanders showed him honor. They were treating him as a person who was so great that his feet should not touch the ground. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain the significance of this action in the text of your translation or in a footnote.

Note 4 topic: translate-unknown

אֶל־גֶּ֣רֶם הַֽמַּעֲל֑וֹת

to/towards (Some words not found in UHB: and,they_hurried and=they_took (a)_man garment_of,his and,they_put_[them] under,him to/towards bare_of of,the_steps and,they_gave_a_blast on,trumpet and=they_said is_king Yēhūʼ/(Jehu) )

The word that the ULT translates as top is an architectural term whose precise meaning is no longer certain. The context suggests, however, that the other commanders wanted to put Jehu in a high location to honor him and make him visible, so most translations understand the term to refer to the top of a staircase. However, some versions translate the term in other ways. If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT.

Note 5 topic: translate-symaction

וַֽיִּתְקְעוּ֙ בַּשּׁוֹפָ֔ר

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_hurried and=they_took (a)_man garment_of,his and,they_put_[them] under,him to/towards bare_of of,the_steps and,they_gave_a_blast on,trumpet and=they_said is_king Yēhūʼ/(Jehu) )

The act of blowing on a shofar was a symbolic action by these commanders showed that they were supporting Jehu as king instead of Jehoram, the son of Ahab. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain the significance of this action in the text of your translation or in a footnote. Alternate translation: [And they blew on a shofar to show that they were supporting him as king]
