Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
וַיָּ֣קָם הָעָ֡ם
and=he/it_rose_up the,people
The author is using rose as a common expression of his culture to mean “got up and started working.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [And the people worked]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo
וְכֹ֣ל ׀ י֣וֹם הַֽמָּחֳרָ֗ת
and=all/each/any/every day of,the_next_day
It might seem that the expression the day of contains extra information that would not be natural to express in your language. If so, you could shorten it. Alternate translation: [and all the next day]
Note 3 topic: grammar-collectivenouns
אֶת־הַשְּׂלָ֔ו
DOM the,quail
In this verse, the word quail is singular in form, but it refers to all the birds as a group. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use the plural form of “quail.” Alternate translation: [the quail birds]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
הַמַּמְעִ֕יט אָסַ֖ף עֲשָׂרָ֣ה חֳמָרִ֑ים
the_[one,who]_made_little gathered ten homers
The implication is that even the person who gathered the least amount still gathered a very large quantity of quail. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [Even the one making little gathered very much: ten homers]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
הַמַּמְעִ֕יט
the_[one,who]_made_little
The phrase making little is a common expression of this culture that means “doing the least work” or “gathering the least amount.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [The one who did the least work]
Note 6 topic: translate-bvolume
עֲשָׂרָ֣ה חֳמָרִ֑ים
ten homers
The term homer was equivalent to 220 liters or about 6.5 bushels. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could express this in terms of modern measurements, either in the text or in a footnote.
Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / extrainfo
וַיִּשְׁטְח֤וּ לָהֶם֙ שָׁט֔וֹחַ סְבִיב֖וֹת הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה
and,they_spread_[them]_out to/for=them to_spread all_around_of the,camp
The author does not state why the people spread the quails around the camp. Some scholars think that they did this so that the meat from the quails would dry out and last longer. However, it is not certain that this is why they spread them out. So it is recommended that you do not explain in your translation why they spread out the quails. You could include possible interpretations in a footnote if that would be helpful to your readers.
Note 8 topic: figures-of-speech / reduplication
וַיִּשְׁטְח֤וּ & שָׁט֔וֹחַ
and,they_spread_[them]_out & to_spread
The author is repeating forms of the verb spread in order to intensify his expression of the idea that it conveys. If your language can repeat words for intensification, it would be appropriate to do that here in your translation. If not, your language may have another way of expressing the intensification. Alternate translation: [And they spread widely]
Note 9 topic: writing-pronouns
לָהֶם֙
to/for=them
The pronoun them refers to the Israelites who gathered the quails. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [for themselves]

OET (OET-RV) So the people went out and collected the quail—each family getting at least the equivalent of ten large barrels full, and they spread the meat around the camp to sun dry.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
