Here the author is introducing Asahel as a new participant in the story. Your language may have its own way of introducing new participants that you can use in your translation.

The word gazelles describes small, fast-running, deer-like animals. If your readers would not be familiar with what a gazelle is, in your translation you could use the name of a similar animal that your readers would recognize, or you could use a general expression. Alternate translation: [the fast deer] or [the swift-running wild animals]
