TSNTyndale Study Notes:

4:1-49 This section expands the discussion begun in 3:21-37 on the duties of the three clans of Levites. The Levites—on the march and encamped—carried and cared for the Tabernacle and were always surrounded by the other tribes so that they and their precious cargo would be safe (2:17). The sacred things associated with God were placed in the middle of the tribes, and the role of the priests and their Levitical assistants was to keep them holy by keeping them separate.
• God, in his holiness, is worthy of attention to the details of his will. His Tabernacle and its furnishings were sacred, and the tribe of Levi was responsible to maintain the distinction between holy and common, between clean and unclean. This explains why so much information is provided about the duties of the three clans of Levites.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וְאֵת֩ קַלְעֵ֨י הֶֽחָצֵ֜ר

and=DOM hangings the,courtyard

See how you translated this phrase in 3:26.

וְאֶת־מָסַ֣ךְ ׀ פֶּ֣תַח ׀ שַׁ֣עַר הֶחָצֵ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר עַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֤ן וְעַל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֨חַ֙ סָבִ֔יב

and=DOM screen entrance gate the,court which/who on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the,tabernacle and,around the,altar around

See how you translated the similar phrases in 3:26.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

כָּל־כְּלֵ֖י עֲבֹדָתָ֑ם

all/each/any/every vessels_of service,their

Here Yahweh is using the possessive form to describe implements that are used for their work. If your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could could a different expression. Alternate translation: “all the implements for working in them”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֧ר יֵעָשֶׂ֛ה לָהֶ֖ם

all/each/any/every all/each/any/every which/who done to/for=them

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “all that they will do for them”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / pronouns

לָהֶ֖ם וְעָבָֽדוּ

to/for=them and,do

Here, them refers to the various items mentioned previously in the verse, but they refers to the descendants of Gershon. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state this expicitly. Alternate translation: “for those implements; and the Gershonites shall work”
