[fn] 1 Paul and Timothy, servants of {Christ Jesus},[fn] to all the saints in Christ[fn] Jesus who are in Philippi, with the overseers and deacons: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 I thank my God for every remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine for you all, making my prayer with joy, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this very thing, that the one who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of {Christ Jesus};[fn] 7 Just as it is right for me to think this about all of you, because I have you in my heart, both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, all of you being {fellow}[fn] partakers with me of grace.

8 For God is [my][fn] witness, how I long for you all with the affection of {Christ Jesus}.[fn] 9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the {fruit}[fn] of righteousness which comes through {Jesus Christ},[fn] to the glory and praise of God.

12 I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to everyone else that my imprisonment is for Christ. 14 And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word [[of God]][fn] without fear.

15 Some indeed preach Christ from envy and strife, but others from goodwill. 16 Some indeed preach Christ from love, knowing that I am set for the defense of the gospel, 17 but others proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, thinking to {stir up}[fn] trouble for me in my imprisonment.

18 What then? [Only][fn] That in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, {and}[fn] in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice, 19 {for}[fn] I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of {Jesus Christ},[fn] 20 according to my eager expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether through life or through death.

22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I do not know.

23 {But}[fn] I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, [for][fn] this is [far][fn] better. 24 Yet to remain in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.

25 And being confident of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in [[your]][fn] faith, 26 that your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Christ Jesus by my coming to you again.

27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel [of Christ],[fn] so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I may hear of you, that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one soul striving together for the faith of the gospel. 28 And in no way frightened by {your}[fn] opponents, which is [[indeed]][fn] a sign of destruction for them, but {of your}[fn] salvation, and this from God.

29 For it has been granted to {you}[fn] on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him, 30 having the same struggle which you saw in me and now hear [is in me].[fn]

2 Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 fulfill my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, being united in spirit, and having one purpose.

3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard one another as surpassing yourselves, 4 not looking out for each one's own interests, but also for the interests of others.

5 [[For]][fn] Let this mindset be in you, which also was in Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing[fn] in the form[fn] of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be seized,[fn] 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men and being found in appearance as a man,[fn] 8 he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

9 Therefore, God highly exalted him and gave him {the}[fn] name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus Christ every knee should bow, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 For God is the one working [[powers]][fn] in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

14 Do everything without grumbling and disputing, 15 so that you {may become}[fn] blameless and innocent, children of God blameless in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

17 But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice [and share my joy][fn] with you all. 18 Likewise, you also should rejoice and share your joy with me.

19 I hope in {the Lord}[fn] Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your situation. 20 For I have no one like him, who will genuinely care for your concerns, 21 for they all seek their own interests, not those of {Jesus Christ}.[fn] 22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he has served with me in [[the chains of]][fn] the gospel.

23 Therefore, I hope to send him as soon as I see how things go with me; 24 and I trust in the Lord that I myself also will come [[to you]][fn] soon.

25 But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my need, 26 since he has been longing {for you all}[fn] and was distressed because you heard that he was sick. 27 For indeed, he was sick, nearly unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore, I am sending him all the more eagerly, so that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less anxious.

29 Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and hold such people in honor, 30 because for the work {of Christ}[fn] he came close to death, risking his life to make up for the help you could not give me.

3 Finally, [my][fn] brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is not tiresome for me, but for you it is safe.[fn]

2 Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for those who mutilate the flesh. 3 For we are the circumcision, those who worship by the Spirit [of God][fn] and boast in Christ Jesus and do not put confidence in the flesh, 4 even though I myself have confidence also in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he has confidence in the flesh, I more so: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as to zeal, persecuting the church; as to the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. 7 [But][fn] whatever things were gain to me, these I have considered loss for the sake of Christ.

8 But indeed, I [also][fn] consider everything to be a loss because of the surpassing knowledge of {Christ Jesus}[fn] {my}[fn] Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and I consider them [[to be]][fn] rubbish, so that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ,[fn] the righteousness from God that depends on faith, 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, [being conformed to his death,][fn] 11 that by any means I may attain the resurrection {from}[fn] the dead.

12 Not that I have already obtained this [[or already have been justified]][fn] or have already reached perfection, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ [Jesus][fn] has made me his own.

13 Brothers, I do {not}[fn] consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I pursue according to the goal for the prize of the upward calling of God [in Christ Jesus].[fn]

15 Therefore, as many as are perfect,[fn] let us think this way; and if you think differently, God will reveal this to you as well. 16 However, to what we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule. [[Let us be of the same mind.]][fn]

17 Become imitators of me, brothers, and observe those who walk in this way, just as you have us as an example. 18 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now even weeping I say, as enemies of the cross of Christ, 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.

20 For our citizenship exists in the heavens, from which [we also eagerly await][fn] a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform the body of our humiliation {to be}[fn] conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working[fn] by which he is able even to subject all things to {him}.[fn]

4 Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brothers, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, beloved.

2 I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to have the same mindset in the Lord. 3 {Yes},[fn] I ask you also, true companion, help these women who have labored with me in the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers and of the others, whose names are in the book of life.

The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace {of God},[fn] which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds [[and bodies]][fn] in {Christ}[fn] Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence,[fn] if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me; practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In everything and in all, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through {the one}[fn] who strengthens me.

14 Yet it was kind of you to share in my affliction. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only, 16 for even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again.

17 Not [that I seek the gift,][fn] but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account. 18 But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am fully satisfied, having received [from Epaphroditus][fn] the things sent from you, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

19 And my God will fulfill every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
