וְלֹ֣א תָס֗וּר מִכָּל־הַדְּבָרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֜י מְצַוֶּ֥ה אֶתְכֶ֛ם הַיּ֖וֹם יָמִ֣ין וּשְׂמֹ֑אול
and=not turn_aside (Some words not found in UHB: and=not turn_aside from=all the,words which/who I commanding ,you(pl) the=day right and,left_hand to=go after ʼElohīm other to,serve,them )
Moses is speaking as if the Israelites had literally been walking behind God but then could turn away to walk in a different direction from him. He means that they should not stop living in the manner in which God wants people to live. See how you translated the similar expression, “Do not turn aside, right or left” in [5:32](../05/32.md). Alternate translation: [and you do not disobey Yahweh’s commands that I am giving you today]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis
וְלֹ֣א תָס֗וּר
and=not turn_aside
Moses is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context of the previous verse if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [and if you do not turn away]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / yousingular
אֶתְכֶ֛ם
,you(pl)
The word you is plural here, so use the plural form in your translation if your language marks that distinction.
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / merism
יָמִ֣ין וּשְׂמֹ֑אול
right (Some words not found in UHB: and=not turn_aside from=all the,words which/who I commanding ,you(pl) the=day right and,left_hand to=go after ʼElohīm other to,serve,them )
Moses is referring to all possible directions of turning away by naming two extremes, right and left. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [in any direction] or [at all]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
לָלֶ֗כֶת אַחֲרֵ֛י אֱלֹהִ֥ים אֲחֵרִ֖ים לְעָבְדָֽם
to=go after ʼElohīm other to,serve,them
Here Moses is speaking of choosing to worship other gods as if it were literally going after them. He is using the image of following someone to mean being devoted to them. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [choosing other gods to serve them]
OET (OET-LV) And_not you_will_turn_aside from_all the_words/messages which I am_commanding you(pl) the_day right_hand and_left_hand to_go after gods other to_serve_them.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
