OET (OET-LV) for_so/thus/hence thus my_master he_says YHWH if not in/on/at/with_burning_of jealousy_of_my I_have_spoken on the_rest_of the_nations and_against ʼEdōm all_of_her which they_made DOM land_of_my to/for_them as_possession in/on/at/with_joy_of every_of heart in/on/at/with_contempt_of self so_that pastureland_of_its for_plunder.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
(Occurrence 0) in the fire of my fury
(Some words not found in UHB: for=so/thus/hence thus he/it_had_said my=master GOD if not in/on/at/with,burning_of jealousy_of,my spoken on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in rest_of the=nations and,against ʼEdōm all_of,her which/who took DOM land_of,my to/for=them as,possession in/on/at/with,joy_of all/each/any/every heart in/on/at/with,contempt_of creature because_of pastureland_of,its for,plunder )
This speaks of Yahweh’s fury as if it were a fire. Yahweh loves Israel very much, so he becomes jealous and angry when other nations mock it. Alternate translation: “because of my intense jealousy” or “because of my very strong anger”
(Occurrence 0) against Edom and all
(Some words not found in UHB: for=so/thus/hence thus he/it_had_said my=master GOD if not in/on/at/with,burning_of jealousy_of,my spoken on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in rest_of the=nations and,against ʼEdōm all_of,her which/who took DOM land_of,my to/for=them as,possession in/on/at/with,joy_of all/each/any/every heart in/on/at/with,contempt_of creature because_of pastureland_of,its for,plunder )
Alternate translation: “and against all of Edom”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
(Occurrence 0) had both joy in their heart and disdain in their spirit, as they seized my land
Here “heart” and “spirit” represent a person’s inner being. The ideas of having joy and disdain can be expressed with the verbs “rejoiced” and “despised.” Alternate translation: “who despised the people of Israel and rejoiced while they took my land”
36:1-15 The destruction of Edom (ch 35) would prepare the way for the restoration of the mountains of Israel, reversing the devastation threatened in ch 6.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
