(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went in=all sins_of his/its=father which/who he/it_had_made before,face/front,him and=not it_became heart_of,his true with YHWH his/its=god as,heart_of Dāvid his/its=father )

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
that his father had committed before his time
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went in=all sins_of his/its=father which/who he/it_had_made before,face/front,him and=not it_became heart_of,his true with YHWH his/its=god as,heart_of Dāvid his/its=father )
Since these verses refer to several kings, it may help to include the name of Abijah’s father. This information can be made clear. AT “that his father, Rehoboam, had committed before Abijah’s time”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
his time
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went in=all sins_of his/its=father which/who he/it_had_made before,face/front,him and=not it_became heart_of,his true with YHWH his/its=god as,heart_of Dāvid his/its=father )
This phrase represents the time that he was king. The meaning of this can be made clear. Alternate translation: “before Abijah was king”
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche
his heart was not devoted … as the heart of David
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went in=all sins_of his/its=father which/who he/it_had_made before,face/front,him and=not it_became heart_of,his true with YHWH his/its=god as,heart_of Dāvid his/its=father )
The heart represents the whole person. Alternate translation: “Abijah was not devoted … as David”
15:1-8 The author of 1 & 2 Kings describes the reign of each king of Judah in a typical pattern: the date of his accession in chronological relationship to the current king of the other kingdom (15:1), the length of his reign, the name of his mother (15:2), a spiritual evaluation of his character (15:3-5), details of his reign (15:6-7), sources where further data about him could be found (15:7), where he was buried, and his successor’s name (15:8).
OET (OET-LV) And_he/it_went in_all the_sins_of his/its_father which he_had_done before_face/front_him and_not it_was heart_of_his complete with YHWH his/its_god as_heart_of Dāvid his/its_father.
OET (OET-RV) but he disobeyed God in ways similar to his father—he wasn’t interested in following his God Yahweh completely like his ancestor David had done.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
