OET (OET-LV)All these the evil things inside is_going_out and is_defiling the person.

OET (OET-RV)So it’s the evil that’s inside a person and comes out that makes them guilty in God’s eyes.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

πάντα ταῦτα τὰ πονηρὰ ἔσωθεν ἐκπορεύεται

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Παντᾶ ταῦτα τά πονηρά ἔσωθεν ἐκπορεύεται καί κοινοῖ τόν ἄνθρωπον)

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of evils, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [People do all these evil things because of what is within]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / go

ἐκπορεύεται

˓is˒_going_out

In a context such as this, your language might say “go” instead of come. Alternate translation: [go out]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

ἐκπορεύεται

˓is˒_going_out

Here Jesus speaks as if evil deeds and desires go out from within a person. He means that these evil deeds and desires have their origin from the person, not from anything outside the person. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a comparable figure of speech or state the meaning plainly. See how you translated the similar phrase in [7:21](../07/21.md). Alternate translation: [spring] or [originate]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

ἔσωθεν

inside

Jesus is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You could supply these words from the context if it would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [from within a person]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations

τὸν ἄνθρωπον

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Παντᾶ ταῦτα τά πονηρά ἔσωθεν ἐκπορεύεται καί κοινοῖ τόν ἄνθρωπον)

Although the term man is masculine, Jesus is using the word in a generic sense that includes both men and women. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a phrase that makes this clear. Alternate translation: [the person]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / genericnoun

τὸν ἄνθρωπον

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Παντᾶ ταῦτα τά πονηρά ἔσωθεν ἐκπορεύεται καί κοινοῖ τόν ἄνθρωπον)

The word the man represents people in general, not one particular person. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the idea in another way. Alternate translation: [a person]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

7:1-23 This account has no direct connection with what precedes it. It assumes only a context such as “Once in the ministry of Jesus.” After setting the scene (7:1-4), Mark introduces the Pharisees’ question (7:5), followed by Jesus’ response (7:6-23). The first part of Jesus’ response (7:6-13) centers around two Old Testament passages and a twofold attack on the Pharisees’ traditions (7:6-8, 9-13). In the second part (7:14-23), Jesus teaches about what does and does not truly defile.

OET (OET-RV)So it’s the evil that’s inside a person and comes out that makes them guilty in God’s eyes.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
