OET (OET-LV) And the one searching our hearts has_known what is the mindset of_the spirit, because according_to god, it_is_pleading for the_holy ones.
OET (OET-RV) The one who searches our hearts knows the mindset of the spirit because the spirit intercedes for the believers as God desires.
In this section Paul said that the things that cause us suffering are only small compared to the glory that God will give us in the future, renewed world. The created world waits for God to reveal us, his adopted children, in our new bodies, because he will also renew the created world at that time. We and the created world groan waiting for that renewal. Paul then described what hope is.
The Holy Spirit helps us where we are weak. He also helps us to pray and intercedes for us. God causes all things to work for our good. He chose us to become like Jesus in word and deed, and become like him like a brother is like his brother. He chose us before the creation of the world, called us, made us righteous, and has glorified us.
Here are other possible headings for this section:
We wait for God to give glory to us
Later we will be together with God in his glory
The Holy Spirit helps us today and God will glorify us in the future
And He who searches our hearts
And the one who examines every inside of people
God knows/sees everything in the inner-being of people and
He who searches our hearts: This refers to God. In some languages this will not be clear. If that is true in your language, you may want to explain in the text. For example:
God, who searches our hearts
This change makes who searches our hearts describe God rather than define to whom the word he refers. Some languages must avoid who in this case for the correct meaning. For example:
God searches our hearts and
searches: Here this word indicates that God carefully examines hearts. It does not refer to looking for something that is lost. Here are other ways to translate this word:
sees into (GNT)
knows (NLT)
hearts: This refers to generally to the hearts of all people. For example:
all hearts (NLT)
The word hearts refers here to the inner being of people, which includes the mind, the emotions, and the will. Use your usual word for that meaning. For example:
insides/liver
mind and will
See how you translated this word in 1:21 or 6:17.
knows the mind of the Spirit,
knows the thinking of the Spirit,
also knows what the Holy Spirit is thinking,
mind: The Greek word here is translated as “the mind” in 8:6 and 8:7. Here it probably refers to the mind generally, as many English versions and scholars translate. God knows what the Holy Spirit is thinking when he groans on our behalf.
because the Spirit intercedes for the saints
because the Spirit speaks to God for his holy people
for the Holy Spirit talks to God on behalf of the people he/God has made holy
saints: The Greek word can mean “holy people,” “people dedicated/consecrated to God,” or “people whom God has made holy.” Here it probably implies all of these meanings. In the New Testament, this word refers to all Christians, not to any special group of Christians. See how you translated this word in 1:7.
according to the will of God.
according to what God wants to happen.
as God desires him to.
the will of God: Here the word will refers to what God wants to happen. See how you translated this word in 2:18.
