Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

20:45-49 Like a parable, this prophecy both reveals and conceals its message, leading the people to complain that the prophet only talks in riddles (see Matt 13:10-17). It reveals the coming of an all-consuming judgment (a fire that will burn up every tree), but conceals who is being judged.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

(Occurrence 0) Alas

(Alas)

a word that expresses distress or grief

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

(Occurrence 0) Is he not a mere teller of parables?

(Is he not a mere teller of parables?)

The people use this question to insult Ezekiel and dismiss what he is telling them. Alternate translation: “He is merely telling parables”
