Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / personification
לֶ֭אֱחֹז בְּכַנְפ֣וֹת הָאָ֑רֶץ וְיִנָּעֲר֖וּ רְשָׁעִ֣ים מִמֶּֽנָּה
that,take_hold in/on/at/with,skirts_of the=earth/land and,shake (Some words not found in UHB: that,take_hold in/on/at/with,skirts_of the=earth/land and,shake רְשָׁ מִמֶּֽ,נָּה )
Yahweh is continuing to speak of the dawn as if it were a living thing, in this case speaking as if the dawn could take hold of the edges of the earth and shake it to make the wicked fall off of it. This is a reference to the way, as Job said in 24:14–15, that criminals commit their crimes during the night, not during the day. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “so that it will become light upon the earth and the wicked will stop committing crimes”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
לֶ֭אֱחֹז בְּכַנְפ֣וֹת הָאָ֑רֶץ
that,take_hold in/on/at/with,skirts_of the=earth/land
See how you translated the similar expression in 37:3, where it was also evident that people in this culture believed that the earth was a flat surface that had edges. Alternate translation: “so that it will become light all around the world”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְיִנָּעֲר֖וּ רְשָׁעִ֣ים מִמֶּֽנָּה
and,shake (Some words not found in UHB: that,take_hold in/on/at/with,skirts_of the=earth/land and,shake רְשָׁ מִמֶּֽ,נָּה )
If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “in order to shake the wicked from it”
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / nominaladj
רְשָׁעִ֣ים
(Some words not found in UHB: that,take_hold in/on/at/with,skirts_of the=earth/land and,shake רְשָׁ מִמֶּֽ,נָּה )
Yahweh is using the adjective wicked as a noun to mean a certain kind of person. Your language may use adjectives in the same way. If not, you can translate this word with an equivalent phrase. Alternate translation: “wicked people”
