TSNTyndale Study Notes:

15:1-32 Chapter 15 contains three related parables of things lost and found: a sheep (15:1-7), a coin (15:8-10), and a son (15:11-32). The loss of something loved causes deep sorrow, whereas finding it brings great joy. There is great rejoicing in heaven when lost sinners return to their heavenly Father.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes

οὐκέτι εἰμὶ ἄξιος κληθῆναι υἱός σου. ποίησόν με ὡς ἕνα τῶν μισθίων σου

no_longer ˱I˲_am worthy /to_be/_called /the/_son ˱of˲_you make me as one ˱of˲_the hired_‹ones› ˱of˲_you

If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate this so that it is not a quotation within a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: “He decided he would tell his father that he did not deserve to be his son any more, but that he hoped his father would hire him as one of his servants”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

οὐκέτι εἰμὶ ἄξιος κληθῆναι υἱός σου

no_longer ˱I˲_am worthy /to_be/_called /the/_son ˱of˲_you

If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this with an active form, and you could state who would do the action. Alternate translation: “I am no longer worthy for you to call me your son”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

κληθῆναι

/to_be/_called

This expression could also be an idiom that means “to be.” See how you translated this phrase in 1:32, 1:76, and 2:23. Alternate translation: “to be”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / imperative

ποίησόν με ὡς ἕνα τῶν μισθίων σου

make me as one ˱of˲_the hired_‹ones› ˱of˲_you

This is a request, not a command. To show that, it may be helpful to add “please,” as UST does. Alternate translation: “please hire me as one of your servants”
