TSNTyndale Study Notes:

8:19-20 Jesus had four brothers—James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon—and an unknown number of sisters (Matt 13:55; Mark 6:3). These children were probably born to Joseph and Mary after Jesus’ virginal conception and birth. (On the other hand, some believe that Mary remained a lifelong virgin and that Joseph was therefore a widower with children from a previous marriage when he married Mary.)

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

ἀπηγγέλη & αὐτῷ

˱it˲_/was/_reported & ˱to˲_him

If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this with an active form, and you could state who did the action. The subject should be plural, since in the next verse Jesus responds to “them.” Alternate translation: “people told him”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / you

σου & σου & σε

˱of˲_you & ˱of˲_you & you

Since the person who said this was speaking to Jesus alone, your and you are singular.

ἰδεῖν θέλοντές σε

/to/_see wanting you

Alternate translation: “and they would like to see you”
