ClVget inventi sunt filii Levi per nomina sua, Gerson et Caath et Merari.[fn]
(and inventi are children Levi through names his_own, Gerson and Caath and Merari. )

Verbum Dei dente discretionis molit, secundum auditorum capacitates; et sæculum sibi amarum ostendens, alios a voluptatibus revocat. Hi ab uno mense numerantur, quia initium vitæ Deo debent consecrare, ne post multa scelera promoti faciant blasphemare nomen Dei, unde: Oportet episcopum irreprehensibilem esse, etc. I Tim. 3.

3.17 Levi through names his_own. Levi addsus or assumptus. Here/This it_is ordo doctorum, who through grace of_God from/about mundo elected to slavestium divinum cœtibus of_messengers/angels unitur. Whence: I you I_chose from/about mundo Yoan. 15.. And alibi: But are like angeli of_God in/into/on cœlo Matth. 22.. Gerson and Caath and Merari. Tres children Levi significant beforedicatores sanctæ Trinitatis, confessione insignes, fide, spe and charitate mirabiles. Neither huic expositioni their nominum interpretation aliquo just/only repugnat, but very_much concordat. Interpretatur because Gerson advena, Caath patience/endurance, or molares teeth. Merari amara, or amaritudo; minister because of_God advenam himself and peregrinum in/into/on mundo cognoscit, and patient it_is. The_word/saying of_God dente discretionis molit, after/second listensorum capacitates; and forever to_himself amarum showing, others from voluptatibus revocat. They away one a_month numerantur, because the_beginning of_life to_God debent consecrare, not after fine crimes promoti faciant blasphemare name of_God, unde: Oportet episcopum irreprehensibilem esse, etc. I Tim. 3.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

3:14-39 This first phase of a two-stage registration of the tribe of Levi (see 4:34-49 for stage two) summarized each family group’s special responsibilities (described in greater detail in 4:1-33). This numbering was not linked with military duties, so it enrolled male Levites from the age of one month (3:40-41).
• Three family groups are descended from Gershon, Kohath, and Merari, the three sons of Levi. These clans (often called the Gershonites, Kohathites, and Merarites) later inherited the “cities of refuge” (Josh 21) and filled various important posts in the Jerusalem Temple (2 Chr 29:3-17).
