Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

ClVg et inventi sunt filii Levi per nomina sua, Gerson et Caath et Merari.[fn]
(and inventi are children Levi through nomina sua, Gerson and Caath and Merari. )
Verbum Dei dente discretionis molit, secundum auditorum capacitates; et sæculum sibi amarum ostendens, alios a voluptatibus revocat. Hi ab uno mense numerantur, quia initium vitæ Deo debent consecrare, ne post multa scelera promoti faciant blasphemare nomen Dei, unde: Oportet episcopum irreprehensibilem esse, etc. I Tim. 3.
3.17 Levi through nomina sua. Levi additus or assumptus. Hic it_is ordo doctorum, who through gratiam of_God about mundo electus to servitium divinum cœtibus angelorum unitur. Whence: I you elegi about mundo Yoan. 15.. And alibi: But are like angeli of_God in cœlo Matth. 22.. Gerson and Caath and Merari. Tres children Levi significant prælet_him_sayores sanctæ Trinitatis, confessione insignes, fide, spe and charitate mirabiles. Nec huic expositioni their nominum interpretatio aliquo modo repugnat, but valde concordat. Interpretatur because Gerson advena, Caath patientia, or molares dentes. Merari amara, or amaritudo; minister because of_God advenam se and peregrinum in mundo cognoscit, and patiens it_is. Verbum of_God dente discretionis molit, after/second auditorum capacitates; and sæculum sibi amarum ostendens, alios from voluptatibus revocat. They away uno a_month numerantur, because the_beginning of_life Deo debent consecrare, not after multa scelera promoti faciant blasphemare nomen of_God, unde: Oportet episcopum irreprehensibilem esse, etc. I Tim. 3.
3:14-39 This first phase of a two-stage registration of the tribe of Levi (see 4:34-49 for stage two) summarized each family group’s special responsibilities (described in greater detail in 4:1-33). This numbering was not linked with military duties, so it enrolled male Levites from the age of one month (3:40-41).
• Three family groups are descended from Gershon, Kohath, and Merari, the three sons of Levi. These clans (often called the Gershonites, Kohathites, and Merarites) later inherited the “cities of refuge” (Josh 21) and filled various important posts in the Jerusalem Temple (2 Chr 29:3-17).
