TSNTyndale Study Notes:

3:14-39 This first phase of a two-stage registration of the tribe of Levi (see 4:34-49 for stage two) summarized each family group’s special responsibilities (described in greater detail in 4:1-33). This numbering was not linked with military duties, so it enrolled male Levites from the age of one month (3:40-41).
• Three family groups are descended from Gershon, Kohath, and Merari, the three sons of Levi. These clans (often called the Gershonites, Kohathites, and Merarites) later inherited the “cities of refuge” (Josh 21) and filled various important posts in the Jerusalem Temple (2 Chr 29:3-17).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

בְּנֵ֣י לֵוִ֔י

sons_of Lēvīh

Here, the sons of Levi refers specifically to the male descendants of Levi. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “the male descendants of Levi”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

לְבֵ֥ית אֲבֹתָ֖ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם

by,houses ancestral,their to=their=clans

See how you translated these clauses in 1:2.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo

תִּפְקְדֵֽם

count,them

Since this clause is repeated from the previous sentence, the expression here is extra information that would be unnatural to express in some languages. If this is true of your language, you could remove the expression here and combine this sentence with the previous sentence.

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

כָּל־זָכָ֛ר מִבֶּן־חֹ֥דֶשׁ וָמַ֖עְלָה

all/each/any/every male from,son_of month and,more,

See how you translated the similar clause in 1:20.
