BrTrCharge the children of Israel, and let them send forth out of the camp every leper, and every one who has an issue of the reins, and every one who is unclean from a [fn]dead body.

5:2 Gr. soul.

ULT“Command the sons of Israel and they shall send away from the camp every one with an infectious skin disease and every one who flows and every one unclean by a dead person.

UST“Order the Israelites to remove the following people from the campgrounds: every person with a skin disease that can spread from one person to another, every person whose body discharges bodily fluid, and every person who is defiled because of dead body.

BSB“Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone with a skin disease,[fn] anyone who has a bodily discharge, and anyone who is defiled by a dead body.

5:2 Forms of the Hebrew tzaraath, traditionally translated as leprosy, were used for various skin diseases; see Leviticus 13.

FBV“Order the Israelites to expel from the camp anyone who has a skin disease, or who has a discharge, or who is unclean from touching a dead body.[fn]

5:2 “Unclean from touching a dead body”: This seems to be a temporary exclusion. See Leviticus 11:24.

T4T“Tell this to the Israeli people: ‘You must send away from your camp/area where you have your tents► any man or woman who has leprosy and anyone who has a discharge of some fluid from his body, and anyone who has become unacceptable to God because of having touched a corpse.

LEB“Command the Israelites:[fn] they must send everyone from the camp who is afflicted with a rash,[fn] everyone with a fluid discharge, and everyone unclean through contact with a corpse.

5:2 Literally “sons/children of Israel”

5:2 The precise meaning is uncertain; many modern translations suggest “leprosy”

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

5:2 skin disease: The Hebrew word used here describes various skin diseases that were regarded as contagious (cp. Lev 13–14).
• Discharge refers to fluids associated with sexual organs (Lev 15; cp. Luke 8:43-48).
• touching a dead person: See Num 6:6-11; 19:11.
