Song 76/God is victorious

Psa 76:1–12

76 For the musical director: a song by Asaf to be accompanied by stringed instruments.

76God has made himself known in Yehudah (Judah).

His reputation is great in Yisrael (Israel).

2His tent is in Salem.

His residence is in Tsiyyon (Zion).

3There he broke the arrows that were for the bow,

the shield, the sword, and the other weapons of war. (Instrumental break.)

4You shine brightly and reveal your splendour,

above the hills where you killed your victims.

5The brave warriors were plundered.

They slept their last sleep.

All the warriors were helpless.

6At your rebuke, God of Yakov,

both rider and horse fell asleep.

7You, yes you, are to be feared.

Who can stand in your sight when you are angry?

8You made your judgement heard from heaven.

The earth was afraid and silent

9when you, God, took action to execute judgment

and to save all oppressed people across the world. (Instrumental break.)

10Surely your angry judgment against humanity will bring you praise.

You cloak yourself with what’s left of your anger.

11Make promises to your God Yahweh, then keep them.

May all who surround him bring gifts to him who expects to be obeyed.

12He humbles the spirit of the princes.

He’s feared by the kings across the world.
