76:0 God is victorious
76 For the musical director: a song by Asaf to be accompanied by stringed instruments.
76 God has made himself known in Yehudah (Judah).
≈His reputation is great in Yisrael (Israel).
≈His residence is in Tsiyyon (Zion).
3 There he broke the arrows that were for the bow,
the shield, the sword, and the other weapons of war. (Instrumental break.)
4 You shine brightly and reveal your splendour,
above the hills where you killed your victims.
5 The brave warriors were plundered.
All the warriors were helpless.
6 At your rebuke, God of Yakov,
both rider and horse fell asleep.
7 You, yes you, are to be feared.
≈Who can stand in your sight when you are angry?
8 You made your judgement heard from heaven.
The earth was afraid and silent
9 when you, God, took action to execute judgment
and to save all oppressed people across the world. (Instrumental break.)
10 Surely your angry judgment against humanity will bring you praise.
You cloak yourself with what’s left of your anger.
11 Make promises to your God Yahweh, then keep them.
May all who surround him bring gifts to him who expects to be obeyed.
